In three weeks time I will be boarding a plane with my friend to travel across the world and spend a month inter-railing all over Europe.
At this time of the semester university is just crazy. Everyone is totally stressed out. Finals are coming up, papers are due and exhaustion is beginning to peak. It’s usually right around this point where everyone is desperate for the summer to start just to catch up on sleep, chill out, relax, soak up the summer weather and basically do absolutely nothing for a couple of weeks.
Oh no, not me though. Instead of laying flat out on my couch for 10 hours a day once school has finished, I’ll be living out of a backpack and taking flights, trains and ferries all over Europe.
Obviously I am incredibly excited. Like, I literally cannot wait. I know it’s going to be the best experience and holiday I’ve ever had. But, I must admit I am a little bit stressed. In all honesty, I don’t think I’ve ever organised something entirely by myself. As in, no ‘parental’ help at all. I’ve booked flights, hotels and buses by myself before. I even love traveling alone, it doesn’t phase me at all.
There is just something about organising a four week trip by yourself that is just a little bit intimidating. The combination of school work, essays, finals, summer jobs, internships, saving money and planning this holiday is a bit of a balancing act right now. But, it’s coming along nicely!
If anyone reading this has ever been inter-railing and has any tips, please comment below, I’d love to get as much advice as possible.
I honestly cannot wait to step on the plane and just begin this amazing trip. I know as soon as the plane, train, bus or ferry takes off I’m going to have the best time of my life.
Our planned route is as follows;
- New York to Manchester, England.
- Manchester to Dublin, Ireland.
- Dublin to Carlisle, England.
- Carlisle to Edinburgh, Scotland.
